Tracking Your Symptoms & Seeking Help

Each one’s body functions differently. The body has a great inbuilt mechanism to respond and defend any abnormality and give alerts which appear and manifest to us as symptoms. It is important to be vigilant about any unusual symptoms or changes in body functions, especially if this goes on for longer than normal and is persistent .

Keep track of such symptoms like pain, bleeding, cough, fever, nausea, appetite loss, indigestion, fatigue, breathlessness, chronic pain, chronic bleeding, persistent indigestion, diarrhoea or constipation, weight gain or weight loss, etc, and report it to a doctor.

In many cases for unexplained and unusual symptoms it may be better to err on the side of caution and take medical advice.

Most symptoms on day to day are just the body reacting to environment, food intake, physical activity, your exposures . Mostly these will go away naturally , with rest , changing diet etc . In a lot of situations common over the counter (OTC) medicines may help. Most symptoms do not indicate any serious illness and you should not get over anxious about your health or assume that you necessarily have a serious illness.

However if you feel uncertain or continue to feel ill, symptoms persist and are unusual do not delay or ignore the signs - instead see a doctor. Different illnesses sometimes have similar symptoms and only an experienced doctor would be able to pinpoint the cause and suitably treat you. Make notes of your symptoms, when they started and also carry with you your previous medical history, records and current medication etc.
