By Patients for Patient Safety Foundation (PFPSF)

The Leaders in Patient Empowerment (LPE) Program is a flagship initiative of the Patients for Patient Safety Foundation (PFPSF) — a nonprofit movement committed to advancing safer, more inclusive, and patient-centered healthcare.

The aim behind this initiative:

To reduce avoidable harm, foster meaningful communication, and ensure that patients and their families are informed, involved, and empowered throughout their healthcare journey.

Each year, patients often encounter difficulties in navigating the system — not because of intent, but due to unintentional gaps in awareness, understanding, or access to the right information. The LPE Program seeks to close these gaps by equipping hospitals with patient-facing resources that are clear, culturally relevant, and available in multiple Indian languages and formats — including posters, QR codes, infographics, videos, and audio content.

Hospitals enrolled in the Leaders in Patient Empowerment (LPE) Program are already leading the shift toward safer, more patient-centered care.

The program enables hospitals to:

  • Provide a Multilingual Health Library with patient education content in text, video, audio, and infographics, available in major Indian languages.
  • Implement a Patient Engagement Toolkit featuring visual checklists and communication aids to strengthen patient involvement across touchpoints.
  • Enhance patient-provider interactions through Two-Way Communication Tools that support informed decision-making and mutual understanding.
  • Enhance structured Patient Advisory Councils (PACs) to bring patient perspectives into hospital planning and safety initiatives.
  • Align with key patient-centric requirements under NABH 6th Edition Standards to support quality improvement and accreditation.
  • Earn National Recognition on PFPSF platforms for advancing patient empowerment and safety leadership.

This program fosters a shared responsibility — where patients, families, and care teams work together toward better outcomes and experiences.

Participation is free, collaborative, and impact-driven. If your hospital or team believes in strengthening the patient-provider partnership, the LPE Program welcomes you to be part of this movement.
